TanStack Start 1.0 Is Stable, With an API Commitment to Adopters

The React and Solid full-stack framework leaves the release candidate behind and promises the application model will not be redesigned under adopters.

TanStack Start 1.0 shipped on October 13. Tanner Linsley framed the release as a formal API commitment: the application model is stable, and adopters should not expect the team to redesign the framework under them. That matters more than any single feature, because the cost of a full-stack framework is the migration you sign up for later.

The framework keeps routing on TanStack Router and uses Vite plus Nitro for builds and deployment, so you choose the host instead of maintaining adapters. createServerFn handles server calls, and the environment functions keep server-only code out of the client bundle. The team also supports Solid and Rsbuild, which forced them to remove React and build-tool assumptions from the core.

The performance work is the other headline. Manuel Schiller and Florian Pellet profiled the server, removed work it did not need, and reached roughly 5.5x the SSR throughput in the team's benchmark. That number comes from their benchmark, not an independent one, so run your own route mix before assuming it transfers.

Start 1.0 is worth a look if you want a lighter full-stack React or Solid app and you will trade some of Next.js's ecosystem and convention weight for Vite-native control. The API commitment lowers the risk of adopting now. The smaller ecosystem is the cost.

Solid 2.0 RC: The Big <Reveal>

Solid 2.0's release candidate reworks async around promises and new Loading/Errored/Reveal primitives while retiring SolidStart, so adopters need a migration plan before the stable release.
